On Saturday, September 5, attention turns to the Grade 1 Spinaway Stakes, a $300,000 race featuring two-year-old fillies over seven furlongs. Saturday’s card also includes the Grade 3 With Anticipation Stakes, carrying a $225,000 purse and showcasing two-year-olds on the turf.
Sunday brings another major day of racing.
The Grade 1 Spendthrift Farm Hopeful Stakes takes center stage on September 6, with a $300,000 purse for two-year-olds over seven furlongs. The Hopeful is one of Saratoga’s longstanding traditions and an early opportunity to watch young horses that could become names to follow into their three-year-old seasons.
Sunday’s card also features the Grade 3 Prioress Stakes, worth $225,000, and the $150,000 Disco Partner.
Then comes one last day.
On Labor Day, Monday, September 7, Saratoga closes its summer season with the $200,000 Funny Cide Stakes and $200,000 Gio Ponti Stakes.
It is the final afternoon to hear the crowd, walk through the historic grounds and watch horses enter the starting gate before Saratoga’s summer season officially comes to an end.
