More About Gulfstream GIV
Introducing the Gulfstream G-IV, the fourth installment in the Gulfstream family line that brings a host of significant advancements over its predecessors. Notably, the GIV features a transition from the Rolls-Royce Spey engines to the more powerful Rolls-Royce Tay Mk 611-8 engines, a model also utilized in later Gulfstream aircraft. These engines, each providing 13,850 lbs of thrust and requiring inspection every 8,000 hours, contribute to a remarkable 15% improvement in fuel efficiency and reduced noise levels.
The GIV boasts a state-of-the-art six-screen, color Electronic Flight Instrument System (EFIS) and is Management equipped with the Honeywell SPZ-8000 avionics suite, which includes Collins radios, Flight System (FMS), and dual Honeywell laser inertial reference systems. For added flexibility, optional features include triple laser Inertial Navigation Systems (INS), dual FMS, and an air-to-ground telephone.
Innovative technology doesn’t stop at the avionics; the GIV is the first in the Gulfstream family to incorporate the Goodyear Aerospace brake-by-wire system and a Dowty fail-passive steer-by-wire system, enhancing pilot maneuverability. With a maximum takeoff weight of 72,300 pounds, an increase of 2,000 pounds over its predecessor, the GIV delivers improved hot-and-high performance and achieves a high-speed cruise of 480 knots true airspeed.
Compared to the GIII, the GIV provides an additional 4.5 feet of interior space while preserving Gulfstream’s renowned stand-up cabin. The cabin dimensions include a length of 45.1 feet, a width of 7.3 feet, and a height of 6.1 feet, comfortably accommodating up to 19 passengers. Onboard amenities feature a spacious galley and a full-sized lavatory complete with a shower.
The Gulfstream GIV represents the epitome of a midsize, intercontinental-range business jet. Evidencing Gulfstream’s commitment to innovation, this aircraft incorporates new design elements, upgraded engines, and expanded interior space, solidifying its position as a high-performing intercontinental jet. Furthermore, many of Gulfstream’s subsequent models draw inspiration from the GIV’s success.
